HomeReceivingSaved from a Sinful Culture vs. 40, 47

What does it mean to be saved from a "generation that has gone astray"?

God saves us! He saves us from the just punishment of our sins. We are forgiven and cleansed. Despite our personal forgiveness, we realize that evil has forever marred the physical world in which we live. It is broken and will not last forever.

Our bodies are mortal and will die. The culture, or the "generation," in which we find ourselves is littered with the results of the sinful abuses of power, selfishness, wickedness, immorality, disloyalty, greed, and hatred. The the universe as we know it will one day cease. The sinful desires that propel people to do horrible things will end. Those who have perpetuated hatred, evil, and abuse will have to face God and will be punished for their actions. God will bring final justice on all who are part of such vile deeds.

A follower of Jesus hates what is evil. A follower works to right the wrongs he or she sees and brings justice where thre is injustice. However, Jesus' followers will never be able to bring about complete justice, permanent love, and the dissolution of all wickedness on this earth. So God's salvation means that Jesus' followers will see a world where all is peace and love. They will share in His glory and the radiance of His gracious presence. They will be saved, ultimately, completely, from death and its power to hurt and separate. They will be saved and experience that salvation with others who are followers of Jesus ... forever.
