→ Turning from Sin and to God
vs. 38
Our
Crucial Need to Turn Away from Sin and Turn to God
The
sense of deep conviction that we are sinners should move us to
turn to God. This turning away from sinfulness and turning to
God is sometimes called repentance. Repentance begins with a conviction
in the heart and mind that leads us to a change in lifestyle,
purpose, focus, and behavior.
Jesus
died, the One who is truly righteous for us, for unrighteous people.
He did it because of His love and because sinners needed a real
Savior. He became sin and unrighteousness so that His followers
could be the very righteousness of God. So how can anyone understanding
His sacrificial death remain in his or her sinful way of life?
They cannot. When a person becomes a follower of Jesus, he or
she turns froms sin and turns to God. Jesus comes to live with
that person and brings His joy and blessing.
God
demands that we all turn away from the things of evil and return
back to Him. Our change should be seen in the way we live and
in the fruit that we bear. Our behavior, our character, and our
ethics are based in the example of Jesus. As we turn away from
sin and focus on God's Son, Jesus, He empowers us to be transformed,
little by little to more like Jesus. |
