to the Apostles' Teaching vs. 42-43
Why
is the apostles' teaching so important?
The
Bible claims to be inspired — it is God-breathed! The Scriptures
are able to make us wise for salvation if we understand that the
center and meaning of the Scriptures is found in Jesus. These
Scriptures are intended to be practical, helping prepare us to
do the kinds of things a follower of Jesus needs to do.
Interestingly,
the first followers of Jesus didn't have the New Testament part
of the Bible. It was being written as they were learning to live
for Christ. However, the apostles had been witnesses of Jesus'
words and actions before and after his death, burial, and resurrection.
He had promised He would send His Spirit to guide them into all
truth. They would teach all that Jesus had commanded under His
authority. The first followers recognized this authority and authenticity
in their teaching and responded with devoted obedience.
As
the group of Jesus' followers grew and spread all over the world,
the writings of these apostles took on special significance: they
were recognized as authoritative and inspired. Their words were
not just their own, but were given to them by the Holy Spirit.
The emphasized that they spoke with the authority of Jesus and
that their teaching was not their but from God. The first followers
were called to follow this teaching as the inspired teaching from
God. So do Jesus' followers today!
